Attigo is a runner up in the Microsoft //Publish Competition!

Great news!

When I submitted Attigo to the Windows Phone Store just before 1st July, I entered it into the //Publish competition run by Microsoft.  Since then, Attigo has been featured twice on the Windows Phone Store in India and has been steadily building up a user-base.

Last Friday, I received an email from Microsoft stating that I had come in as a runner up in the competition!  Narrowly missing out on $10,000 to pimp out my development environment, I will be receiving a new Nokia 1520 phone (or phablet, given the size of the device)!  Timing couldn’t be better, as my trusty Nokia 920 has been giving me some minor issues recently with the microphone not switching on for calls, so soon I’ll be able to show off the new phone!

Attigo has come in as a runner up within the ‘Best Windows Phone 8.1 App’ category.

I’m super excited and truly honoured to have received such positive feedback and recognition for my app, especially given that it is still in its infancy.

You can download Attigo by clicking here.

Attigo – Never forget to send a message again!

Over the last few months, in what little spare time I’ve had, I have been working away on a new app, which I’ve called Attigo (which is a Latin term for ‘I have arrived’).

Attigo addresses the issue that many of us have faced in life where we’ve been told to send someone a message when you get home, only for you to forget once you walk in the door..  With Attigo, you can create an alert, tag it to a location, pre-write your message, choose your recipients and you’re done.  Once you arrive, you will receive notification reminders to send the message.  By tapping the reminder or relaunching the app, the message is automatically produced, ready for you to hit send and get on with opening your post!

Pending Alerts

Currently, the app allows for SMS and Emailing.  Future features will include Facebook integration, automated SMS/Email (so no need to hit send yourself) and more!

Attigo has been released for Windows Phone ahead of other platforms.

6th person's attempt

Things going a bit cray cray!

Just a quick update regarding my recent post about my Grandad and how Reddit restored his photo for him..

Things have been a bit nuts!  After getting an amazing 70k+ YouTube views via Reddit and a tonne of lovely comments and feedback, I was left overwhelmed.  Since then, the story has broken globally and I’ve had some great coverage from the below websites:

  • RightThisMinute.com – Did a lovely segment of the video.
  • The Huffington Post – Featured the story on their website.
  • CNET - Featured article
  • Tokudane Toko Doga – Show on NHK (Japanese Broadcasting Company) – I have an interview with the show on Thursday morning and the show airs every Sunday, so I will update the link when it has aired.
  • Daily Dot – Another featured article!
  • Stern.de – German news site picked up the article, just as I thought things were slowing down!
  • BoingBoing.net – This popular and far-reaching blog picked it up last night.. The site has taken a hammering from the influx of traffic, but it’s coping ok!
  • NeatORama.com
  • Laughing Squid
  • Buzz Patrol
  • The Sun Newspaper – TBC (Did a photoshoot this evening!)
  • Reddit user /r/laurenonizzle has kindly animated the progression of the photos here
  • Possibly more to follow!

The video has had well over 111k views now and today the blog has been hit pretty hard, receiving over 1200 views already!

Thanks again for everyone’s wonderful support and feedback, it has been truly humbling.  I have been sharing everything with my Grandad, who has really enjoyed your comments and is very happy to have brought a smile to people’s days.

UPDATE – 15/05/13 – Few more blogs have posted articles! Have tried to link back to them above.  I’m trying to keep on top of all your comments on the other blogs and it’s lovely seeing your reactions!  Did a photo shoot for The Sun here in the UK this evening.  Dreading seeing the photos of me, but Grandad looked great as always!  Hopefully it will hit the paper soon, will update when it does.

Reddit and I give my 87yo Grandad a wonderful gift!

My last remaining grandparent, Derek, is the loveliest man you could ever meet.  He was in the submarines in the Royal Navy, back in World War 2, and now lives alone near to where I live.  He’s 87 years old, but you really wouldn’t know it from meeting him!

He has a large family, with a daughter, grandchildren and great grandchildren in Australia.  He also has sons here in the UK  with grandchildren and great grandchildren. Continue reading “Reddit and I give my 87yo Grandad a wonderful gift!” »

IBM's Watson to help diagnose cancer

Elementary, my dear Watson! – IBM’s Watson to become Dr. Watson

IBM’s Watson supercomputer has had a few moments in the spotlight over recent years, most notably perhaps when it beat the human competition in the US game show Jeopardy, but it’s much more than a quiz champion.  It is now going to be used to help diagnose symptoms that could be linked to Cancer.  Watson is designed to replicate cognitive functions, focussing mainly on interpreting language and providing well-founded responses; but what makes Watson different is that it’s knowledge isn’t native to itself, it has to learn it through scouring multiple resources; similar to how many of you would if you were seeking an answer yourself.

Barefoot Running Step By Step Guide – Week 1, Baby Steps

As people look for new ways to get fit and healthy, injuries often take the blame for throwing people off the wagon.  In the world of running, it’s often a cycle of feeling unfit, going for a few runs, injuring yourself, recovering and feeling unfit again.  This obviously isn’t always the case, other factors can throw you off-course, but regardless, the fact remains that when we run, we often don’t run ‘naturally’ due to the fancy-pants cushioned trainers we now all possess.  Barefoot running has become increasingly popular in recent years, bringing with it an ethos of natural running, increased connection to the terrain and reduced injuries.
